Our program is more than just a job or a simple internship, it’s a lifetime opportunity to gain hands-on experience, make lasting friendships, boost your resume, and grow your skills/knowledge.

Internship Program Highlights:

• Meet and network with numerous other college interns as part of our program.
• Gain first-hand experience and knowledge working directly in the field in either a leadership or specialty position (see further below for more details).
• Get valuable opportunities to meet, engage, and learn directly from park leaders and management.
• Attend weekly business seminars taught by park leaders and management where you can learn about all the facets of the theme park business (Culinary, Finance, HR, Marketing, Park Operations, Retail, Workforce Planning, etc.).
• Participate in a team capstone project where groups of interns work on real-world business cases that affect our park and offer solutions / innovations for the future. Teams present their final findings directly to park leadership and management at the end of the program.
• Be a part of the Y-Richmond experience offered by ChamberRVA. This local program offers educational and networking events throughout the summer that seek to connect interns at dozens of local companies of all sizes with each other and provides an enriching introduction to Richmond, Virginia (RVA) and all it has to offer.
• All internship opportunities are paid with rates starting at $13.00 an hour.

     Kings Dominion offers two different type of intern positions...

Leadership Intern Opportunities:

• Food & Beverage Leadership- gain valuable skills in leadership, communication, F&B operations and earn your ServSafe certification. 
• Retail Leadership - gain valuable skills in inventory, cash handling, communications, marketing, and leadership. You will lead a team of associates and assist with on-the-job training, coaching, and developing their knowledge and skills. At the same time, you will be tasked with managing the operation of 1-3 retail locations in the park gaining valuable operations experience.

Specialty Position Intern Opportunities:

• Administration/Audit - gain valuable skills in internal audit programs, various administrative processes and training coordination. 
• Culinary - focus on developing a strong operational capability, work in the various kitchens, be coached by Culinary Management Leadership, as well as be challenged to execute at a professional production level.
• Human Resources - we offer limited intern positions with our employee housing, onboarding, learning and development, and recruiting teams. 
• Retail Visual Merchandiser - gain valuable skills in inventory, communications, creative design, and visual merchandising. This position will work directly with our full-time visual merchandiser to keep our 14 retail locations updated throughout the summer. You will be tasked with setting up merchandise on slat walls, tables, and fixtures. You will also be tapping into your creative side by coming up with visual window displays using merchandise and props to transform our stores for seasonal events!
• Sanitation - gain valuable skills in food operations and inspections. In this role you will follow inspection rotations, file reports, learn and follow ever clean guidelines. 
• Security - gain valuable skills in communication, conflict resolution, and incident investigation. This position allows you to work hands on in the park as a member of the security team.

• At least 18 years of age.
• Must be currently pursuing a college degree or a recent graduate (within 180 days of the start of employment/program at Kings Dominion).
• Commit to working through the 2024 summer operating season (mid-May through mid-August).
• Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and/or holiday periods to meet business needs.
• Ability and comfort with working in both indoor and outdoor environments that may include a variety of weather conditions (rain, heat, snow, wind, etc.).
• Ability to pass a background check which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education, and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
• Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
